Call for Beta-Tester

As I announced is the reason for releasing the Version 0.99 is the Beta-Testing. The program works and I hope, that I did no mistake while copiing the values from the Guide into the files. The program should run stable. Nevertheless I am on bughunting - so if you download the program then please send me a feedback email to

And now go on and enjoy the program :)

What is it?

The Shadowlaboratories: Weaponsmith is a small tool mainly for Shadowrun Gamemasters to build new firearms for their games. It uses the rules created from Peter Millholland called "Firearms Creation Guidelines" which you can find on his homepage

It is not only the portation from my windows program into the Linux world, it is the next development step. I included some more features from the Guide and the Gtk interface is much easier to use then the old one. Furthermore I extended the output of the Weaponsmith. It now supports plain Text, HTML and LaTeX output.

Since the version 0.99.4-1 the Weaponsmith now supports NLS (via gettext). Currently only a german language file is included in the package. ;) On the other hand that means that the sorcecode is undergoing some heavy modifications - therefore the version is marked as ALPHA. It is still stable (or it should be). If you have any problems - please report them to me...

If you would like to contribute a language file for your native language, please mail me - just for organisation purpose.

To install the package, you need the following libs:

I would say, you need a running X Server (I use X11R6) and the GTK libraries (version 1.2), If you can run GIMP, you also can run the Weaponsmith. Reports of running weaponsmith' from the Beta-Tester come from systems running SuSE 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0 as well as Redhad 7.1 and 7.2.

How to install

To install the RPM switch to su mode and type: rpm -i <package name> where <package name> is the actual name of the package - e.g. srlabwep-0.99.2-2.rpm.

As the entire program was written in Free Pascal, I suppose, that it would be easier to install the program using the RPM - however the source is also aviable.

The current (still Beta) version of the program is 0.99.4-2, released on 21st Feb 2003.

For those who care, I'll give the md5checksum for the RPM and the source .tar.gz.

Binary RPM

The binary RPM is about 90kB big (installed about 250kB).

Pascal Sourcecode

The entire program is written in Free Pascal, using the Free Pascal Compiler version 1.0.6, which you can get from Please note, that with the support of NLS the sourcecode will be undergo heavy changes.
